Basic RV Safety Tips
In order to be a responsible RV owner, you have to be focused on safety. Driving and towing an RV is a major task and you could end up in trouble if you’re not prepared or if you’re doing it recklessly. Here are some essential tips on how to operate your RV safely, particularly on the road.
Do a Pre-Ride Inspection
First, make sure that your RV is in good working order. Inspect the interior and exterior for any signs of damage or systems that aren’t working as they should. Make sure the tires are filled up and in good shape and that your hitch is functioning properly.
Pack Emergency Supplies
Often, people are in jeopardy during a crisis because they haven’t packed the supplies that would keep them safe until they can be rescued. Make sure that you have extra food and bottled water in your RV, along with rain gear, warm clothing, an axe, matches or a lighter, duct tape, an RV tool kit, an emergency radio, multiple fire extinguishers, and a first-aid kit.
Exercise Caution
Whether you’re driving an RV or towing it, you have to be more careful on the roads. You’ll need to take your speed down by five or ten miles per hour and avoid lane changes as much as possible. Keep a significant space cushion around you and your RV so that you have plenty of room to stop.
