RV Maintenance 101
As a responsible RV owner, you try to do everything in your power to take care of your RV. If you’re new to the world of RV ownership, then you may be wondering what, exactly, it is you’ll need to accomplish to keep your RV in good working order. Here are a couple of basic RV maintenance tasks to take care of at home.
Perform Pre-Ride Inspections
Before every trip, it’s a smart idea to walk around your RV and inspect everything to make sure it’s working as intended. You’ll need to test slide-outs, make sure the hitch is in good condition (if your RV is towable), test the water and power systems, and look for anything that needs repairs.
Check Tires
The tires on your RV need to be in peak condition to prevent an accident while you’re driving. A tire blowout is bad enough in a standard car, but in a big RV, it spells certain disaster. Use a tire-pressure gauge to check the psi levels of each tire and get them aired up if they’re low. Look for bald patches or worn treads that could merit a tire replacement.
Clean Inside & Outside
Regularly cleaning both the interior and exterior of your RV will help you to prevent issues like mold, mildew, rust, and corrosion from building up over time. A thorough cleaning also makes your RV nicer to use and it’s easier to see what needs to be tuned up when you’re not looking at a bunch of mud or debris caked on it. Make sure that you’re regularly hosing off the roof since tree leaves and branches can collect up there quickly.
